GWR Breached Our Contract by Announcing Sing-a-thon Results - Afua Asantewaa

Social media sensation Afua Asantewaa has found herself embroiled in a conflict with the Guinness World Records (GWR) following the premature announcement of the results of her singing marathon without her consent.

In a recent interview on GTV, Afua revealed that the terms of the contract she signed with GWR explicitly stipulated that she should be the one to reveal the outcome of her record attempt to the public. She expressed disappointment that GWR breached this agreement by publicizing the results without her prior knowledge.

Afua recounted her struggles in accessing the email sent by GWR containing the results, highlighting her communication with the organization regarding this issue. Despite her efforts to address the matter and seek clarification from GWR, she faced difficulties in logging in to view the results. This technological hurdle thwarted her plans to formally announce the outcome to her audience.

She emphasized her commitment to transparency and honesty, underlining her willingness to embrace both successes and setbacks in her endeavors. Afua underscored her intention to disclose the results to her followers once the technical obstacles are resolved and GWR responds to their inquiries.

The singing sensation embarked on a grueling challenge in December 2023 to surpass the existing sing-a-thon record—an impressive feat that demanded exceptional dedication and endurance. Despite the emotional end to her record attempt and the subsequent accolades she received, the delay and uncertainty surrounding the final judgment have cast a shadow over her achievement.

While GWR conceded that Afua did not break the record, they acknowledged the inspiration she has provided to her supporters and wished her well in any future attempts.

During the GTV interview, Afua Asantewaa mentioned that when she sent the money in January, GWR acknowledged it but did not explicitly inform her that the record attempt was under review. She pointed out that her bank did not notify her when the money was refunded, and GWR also did not inform her about the refund.

Afua Asantewaa highlighted that even though the transaction took five days to be noticed, receiving a refund does not confirm the success or failure of the attempt. She emphasized that regardless of the outcome, she considers the five-day experience to be an achievement.
