I’m not here to Rival Chef Faila’s Cook-a-thon Record –Chef Smith

Amidst criticism for allegedly overshadowing the Guinness World Record aspirations of Chef Faila, Chef Smith, an international executive chef, has stepped forward to address the misconceptions surrounding his cook-a-thon endeavor.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz on Tuesday, February 6, at the Amadia Shopping Centre in Accra, where his marathon cooking session is taking place, Chef Smith expressed disappointment at the hasty judgments cast upon him without a full understanding of the circumstances.

Clarifying the timeline of events, Chef Smith elaborated on the application process for his Guinness World Record attempt. He initially submitted his application in July of the previous year, only to face disqualification. However, after reapplying in September, his entry was eventually approved.

Addressing the public scrutiny he has faced, Chef Smith emphasized that his motivation to pursue the record was not fueled by a desire to rival Chef Faila or any other individual. Rather, his endeavor stemmed from personal ambition and inspiration drawn from culinary achievements like that of Nigeria’s Hilda Baci.

He highlighted the global nature of the competition and underscored that the timing of his attempt, coinciding with another Ghanaian’s, was a matter arranged by the officials rather than a deliberate choice on his part.

Chef Smith, a graduate of the College of Tourism and Hospitality Management of National University in the Philippines, is undertaking a monumental 360-hour cooking marathon, aiming to set a new benchmark for the longest individual cooking session. With his project commenced on Thursday, February 1, Chef Smith had already completed 150 hours by Wednesday morning, with the goal of reaching 360 hours by March 6.

Notably, the current Guinness World Record title holder for the longest cooking marathon by an individual is Irish chef Alan Fisher, who achieved a time of 119 hours 57 minutes. Chef Smith’s ambitious endeavor seeks to surpass this milestone while also outpacing previous challengers such as Uganda’s Dorcus Mirembe, Ghana’s Chef Faila, and Nigerian-Canadian Beauty Obasuyi, who have all made noteworthy attempts at securing the coveted title.

Chef Smith revealed his intention to set a formidable record that would pose a challenge for future contenders, demonstrating his commitment to culinary excellence and perseverance in the face of limited public support. Despite the demanding nature of his marathon cooking feat, Chef Smith remains undeterred, drawing motivation from the presence and encouragement of those who show their support during his culinary odyssey.
