Parliament's Appointments Committee Commences Vetting of Newly Nominated Ministers Today

The Parliamentary Appointments Committee has begun a thorough screening procedure for the newly nominated ministers and deputy ministers today, Tuesday, March 5.

This thorough review, which will begin today and last through Tuesday, March 12, will examine each nominee's credentials and suitability for the positions to which they have been assigned.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer, who is nominated to be the Minister of Tourism, and Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who is to be the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, are the first two candidates to get through the screening process. The committee will then review Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, who is assigned to the Local Government Ministry, and Ophelia Mensah Hayford, who is assigned to the Environment, Science, and Technology Ministry. The day will conclude with the vetting of Dakoa Newman, poised for the Gender and Social Protection Ministry.

President Akufo-Addo's recent cabinet reshuffling, announced on February 14, ushered in changes affecting approximately 12 current ministers, including 10 cabinet members and two regional ministers. Notably, Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta was among those replaced from their positions.

Responding to various pressures from political parties, civil society organizations, and internal party members, President Akufo-Addo orchestrated this reorganization, with several deputy ministers being elevated to substantive ministerial roles and others transferred to new ministries. These appointees are now poised to undergo the vetting process conducted by the Appointments Committee.
