There's no Plot to Oust Majority Leader - NPP Deputy General Secretary

Haruna Mohammed, a Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has refuted claims suggesting a plot to change the leadership of the majority caucus in Parliament. Speculation had arisen regarding the potential replacement of Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu with his Deputy, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

Mohammed categorically denied these rumors, stating that there is no internal scheme within the NPP to oust any leader in government, the party, or Parliament. Addressing the issue on Joy FM's Top Story on February 20, he emphasized, "There has not been any plot within the NPP to oust any leader within any of the setup either government or within the party setup or Parliament."

Earlier, a group of NPP MPs, led by First Deputy Speaker Joseph Osei-Owusu, asserted that they would not tolerate any leadership changes. Osei-Owusu expressed satisfaction with the current leadership under Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Responding to Osei-Owusu's concerns, Mohammed clarified that the Deputy Speaker's remarks did not indicate any conspiracy. He highlighted, "When I listened to him, he never agreed that there was a plot. He never said there was a plot that he knows, and I am unable to speak to the fact that he has actually indicated that there is a plot somewhere because his answers were very clear when questions were posed to him."
