Akufo-Addo is Weak Within his Own Party - Minority Leader

The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has put forth the assertion that President Akufo-Addo's sway over the Majority Members of Parliament has notably dwindled in recent times.
Representing the Ajumako Enyan Essiam Constituency in Parliament, Dr. Forson contends that the President's relevance has diminished, depicting him as a "lame duck" figure with reduced authority over New Patriotic Party MPs.

He remarks that shifts in Parliament indicate a reorientation of loyalty among NPP MPs toward the party's new flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In an interview with JoyNews concerning President Akufo-Addo's stance on the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill, Dr. Forson anticipates NPP MPs aligning with the Minority to usher the bill into law.
Dr. Forson suggests that this apparent realignment mirrors a decline in President Akufo-Addo's influence within his party.

He remarks, "Two years ago, I wouldn’t be sure that NPP MPs will break ranks with President Akufo-Addo but now the President is weak within his own party. They see him more or less as lame. He is a lame duck. They have a new leader, and you can see that loyalty and allegiance have moved from the President to the new flagbearer."

He further highlights that the Vice President criticized the President's policies, indicating a shifting allegiance toward the new leadership.

Dr. Ato Forson reveals that the highly contested Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill is slated for approval by Friday, February 16. He assures that the bill has undergone meticulous scrutiny, ensuring all endorsed amendments by Parliament are accurately captured.
"By the weekend Ghana should have a bill called Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill," he asserts. The proposed bill aims to proscribe activities related to LGBTQ+ individuals within the country.
