Bawumia cannot be "cleaned" of Ghana's present economic crisis - Ato Forson

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader, has refuted attempts to absolve Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia from the economic hurdles plaguing the nation. Dr. Forson, a lawmaker from Ajumako Enyan Essiam, underscored Dr. Bawumia's substantial involvement in shaping the country's economy as the lead of the Economic Management Team.

In a statement on Sunday, February 4, Dr. Ato Forson maintained that efforts by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to shift blame away from Dr. Bawumia, particularly in light of the upcoming December elections, would not succeed. He asserted that Ghanaian citizens are discerning and will not be swayed into making a misjudgment by backing Dr. Bawumia for the presidency.

Dr. Forson criticized the NPP's narrative, stating, "After overseeing the most significant economic crisis in Ghana, the NPP now expects us to believe Bawumia has been absolved, all in their push for him to assume the Presidency."

These comments by Dr. Ato Forson arrived following a call from Kofi Bentil, the Vice President of IMANI Africa, urging the public to attentively listen to the NPP flagbearer during his scheduled public lecture on February 7.

Mr. Bentil advocated for giving Dr. Bawumia, who has not held the presidency before, a fair chance akin to the opportunity afforded to John Mahama in 2012. Expressing confidence in Dr. Bawumia's potential as a capable leader, Mr. Bentil encouraged Ghanaians to contemplate voting for him in the upcoming December elections.

"We granted President Mahama the opportunity to lead, so we should extend the same consideration to Dr. Bawumia by offering a fair and impartial assessment. He has not held the presidency before, and I have no doubt he will excel!" Mr. Bentil highlighted.
