List of Ministers Fired in Akufo-Addo's Reshuffling

The Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, has been relieved of his duties alongside Road Minister Kwame Amoako-Atta and Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu in a significant shake-up within the government.

Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah transitions to the Housing Ministry, with his deputy, Fatimatu Abubakar, assuming the substantive Ministerial role. Additionally, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has been repositioned as Minister of State at the office of the President.

The recent cabinet reshuffle has seen approximately 13 Ministers of State affected, comprising 10 cabinet ministers and two regional ministers. A press release from the presidency on Wednesday, February 14, outlined the dismissed ministers, those reassigned, and newly appointed officials.

There has been sustained pressure on President Akufo-Addo to dismiss Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta, with some Majority MPs aligning with the call for his removal. The President had earlier defended Mr. Ofori-Atta in October 2022, asserting his excellent performance and arguing against his dismissal amidst economic challenges.

Pressure mounted as 98 NPP MPs threatened to boycott budget-related proceedings unless the Finance Minister was promptly ousted by the President in response to the persistent demands.

In a meeting with the aggrieved MPs at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo urged patience, citing ongoing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) as a reason for the interim delay.

Similar calls for resignation targeted Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman Manu following findings in a parliamentary probe into the Sputnik V vaccine contract. The public outcry escalated, with demands for the Minister's departure.

Legal expert Martin Kpebu echoed sentiments for the Minister's departure, emphasizing the amplification of the issue post the report's revelation.

Acknowledging Mr. Agyeman Manu's contributions, President Akufo-Addo commended the Minister's efforts, lauding his pivotal role in advancing the healthcare sector during a public address in the Bono Region.
