Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections, stated on social media that he was happy that the Electoral Commission (EC) decided to hold the 2024 elections on December 7. Dr. Boamah sees this decision as a victory for reaching a consensus.

In order to accommodate possible run-offs and transitional procedures prior to the elected president's January 7 inauguration as required by the 1992 Constitution, the EC had originally suggested shifting the election date to November. The NDC, however, expressed disapproval of the timing of this action and expressed worries about possible unanimity challenges to the Constitution in Parliament.
Dr. Boamah highlighted the importance of the EC's agreement to use indelible ink in the upcoming elections, emphasizing that these decisions signify victories for democracy and advocacy. He expressed hope that ongoing consensus building at IPAC meetings would ensure elections that are free, fair, transparent, and devoid of incidents.
Additionally, Dr. Boamah urged the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government to prevent any violence similar to the tragic killing of eight Ghanaians during the 2020 elections. He concluded by calling for timely dissemination of the EC's election calendar, as December 7 is just ten months away, and encouraged support for John Dramani Mahama's candidacy for well-paying jobs through the 24-hour economy initiative.
