Government to Meet Tertiary Workers Over Strike on February 1

On Thursday, February 1, 2024, the government has indicated that it will meet with the striking tertiary workers to discuss the issues that led to the current industrial action.

The Ghana Association of University Administrators and the Senior Staff, Teachers, and Educational Workers Union of the University of Ghana have been clamoring for better working conditions and the payment of their backdated tier 2 pensions, coupled with compound interest.

The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) branch chairman for Legon, Ken Botchway, expressed confidence about the planned meeting and emphasized its importance as a beginning in the right direction toward resolving their problems.

Noting that certain issues regarding their conditions of service have seen progress, Mr. Botchway highlighted that the focus during the February 1 meeting will be on the persistent challenges related to pension calculations.
