GFA Sacks Chris Hughton and Dissolves Black Stars Technical Team

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken decisive action, relieving Chris Hughton of his role as head coach of the senior National team, the Black Stars.

This move, delineated in a statement released on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, on the GFA's website, coincided with the dissolution of the technical team of the Black Stars by the Executive Council.

According to the Ghana Football Association, a roadmap outlining the future direction of the Black Stars will be provided in the imminent future. This development comes in the aftermath of Ghana's disheartening collapse against Mozambique, resulting in the team's elimination from yet another group stage exit at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The dispiriting turn of events transpired when the Black Stars surrendered a two-goal lead within six minutes, culminating in a 2-2 draw with Mozambique in their last Group B game at the Olympic Stadium in Abidjan on Monday night. This outcome has left the Stars in a challenging third position within the group, with a mere 2 points, necessitating an improbable turnaround to secure qualification as one of the four 3rd place teams.
