Akufo-Addo's Comments are Shocking and Unfortunate - Ekumfi Traditional Council
The Ekumfi Traditional Council expressed its profound dissatisfaction at President Akufo-Addo's statements, which were delivered during a visit by leaders from Ekumfi to the Jubilee House. The Council strongly denounced the President's remarks.
The President is alleged to have admitted in a news conference that he purposefully ignored the people of Ekumfi and withheld development projects because of their voting choices. The Traditional Council expressed extreme astonishment and disbelief at this disclosure.
The Council emphasized the threat that such measures pose to the people's right to free and fair elections and their right to vote without discrimination, characterizing them as politically segregative and a blatant violation of the 1992 constitution.
Furthermore, the Council called for concrete evidence to support the President's assertions, urging him to present scientific data illustrating the accomplishments of the former MP, Ato Cudjoe, for the people of Ekumfi.
In a critical assessment of the situation, the Council highlighted the defeat of Ato Cudjoe in the NPP's internal party primaries for the 2024 General Election, signaling a lack of support within the President's party. This raised questions about why the people of Ekumfi should be penalized for the MP's exit in 2020, particularly in light of the party's internal decisions.
The Ekumfi Traditional Council urged the President to revisit the matter and revitalize stalled developmental projects within the area, viewing such proactive steps as a tangible reflection of remorse for his distressing comments.
