Why Didn't You Retire GRA Boss as You did to Domelevo? - Kwabena Marfo to Akufo-Addo

Peace FM broadcast journalist Kwabena Marfo expressed reservations with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's choice to keep Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai Adu Owusu-Amoah, the head of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), in his position even after he crossed the retirement age two years prior.

On January 31, 2024, during an interactive segment on Neat FM's Morning Show, Marfo drew attention to what he saw as the President's acts being inconsistent. He underscored the necessity of consistency in the President's approach by citing the specific instance of former Auditor General Daniel Domelevo's forced retirement for age-related reasons.

Marfo said, "They ought to reconfirm, given the age that Owusu-Amoah is mentioning now. I immediately report such incidents to the president. Since we were in this nation, he informed us that Domelevo, the Auditor General, should retire because he was sixty years old. Why is this specific individual still employed when it is time for him to retire, but Domelevo was freed of his responsibilities?"

Marfo's remarks make clear how concerned he is about what he sees as a biased approach to senior officials who are approaching retirement age. He underlined the importance of fairness and consistency, particularly in light of the President's prompt steps in Daniel Domelevo's situation.

Marfo's remarks come in the wake of revelations made by Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai during a recent Public Accounts Committee session, where he disclosed that his tenure had expired three years ago. Notably, despite this disclosure, Rev. Dr. Ammishaddai continues to hold his position without an official contract, adding a layer of complexity to the situation.
