Sammy Gyamfi Jabs Bawumia for Not Acknowledging Mahama's Role in Ghana Card System Development

The opposition National Democratic Congress's (NDC) National Communications Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has criticized Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to acknowledge the NDC's and particularly the Mahama administration's contributions to the creation of the Ghana Card system.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, it would be wrong to downplay the NDC's significant role in the development of the Ghana Card system given Dr. Bawumia's distinguished standing.

When presenting recent awards for the system's achievements, Sammy Gyamfi chastised Dr. Bawumia for neglecting to recognize the NDC's pivotal contribution in enhancing the Ghana Card system. Mr. Gyamfi criticized the NDC/Mahama administration for what he perceived to be a deliberate disregard for their efforts in developing the Ghana Card system as it exists now.

In response to Dr. Bawumia's claims about the supposed anti-corruption impact of the online passport application system, Sammy Gyamfi cited conflicting data and Foreign Affairs Minister Shirley Ayokor Botchey's worries about corrupt practices by "goro men" in the passport acquisition procedure. The goal of the critique was to refute the idea that corruption can be completely eradicated by using digital passport application procedures.

Dr. Bawumia recently emphasized the accomplishments of the current administration, including the effective deployment of the Ghana Card system, in his speech as the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) presidential candidate. He emphasized how easy and effective the program is, and how it fits in with larger government plans to improve citizen services and make important documents like passports more accessible.

The NDC expressed dissatisfaction with Dr. Bawumia's portrayal of the Ghana Card system's advancement, focusing on the Vice President's alleged oversight of the NDC's contributions. This criticism reflects tensions within the political sphere regarding the attribution of past achievements and the acknowledgment of preceding administrations' roles in developmental milestones.
