Dr. Bawumia stressed that upon assuming office, the government's focus on modernizing the Ghanaian economy through digitization was crucial to overcome legacy challenges and enhance both economic and public sector governance.
He pointed out that the successful implementation of various digital initiatives, such as a national biometric identification system, property address system, mobile money interoperability, and digitization of government services, has had a positive impact on governance and made services more accessible for Ghanaians.
The Vice President, who is also the NPP's Flagbearer in the 2024 elections, outlined how digitization is addressing generational problems in Ghana, including identity exclusion and the lack of a working address system.
He highlighted the positive outcomes of these initiatives, such as increased financial inclusion through mobile money interoperability and improved public service delivery, leading to a reduction in corruption and an increase in government revenue.
Dr. Bawumia supported his claims with statistics, citing the significant increase in revenue and efficiency at the passport office following the introduction of digitalization. His remarks were made in line with this year's New Year School theme: "Nurturing Resilience: Adopting Technology and Embracing Humanism for Sustainable Development." The event aims to bring together stakeholders from various sectors to discuss issues related to national development and global interest.
