The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) has revealed that students opting for elective science in Senior High School (SHS) will no longer have to take Core Mathematics and Integrated Science.
This decision, part of the new curriculum aimed at enhancing the educational system, was announced by NaCCA's Director General, Professor Edward Appiah.

In an interview with JoyNews on February 6, Professor Appiah explained that since Science students already cover Mathematics and Science extensively, there is no need for them to repeat those subjects. The implementation of this change is scheduled to commence in the 2024/2025 academic year.
Under the new curriculum, students will focus on Core Mathematics, which is additional Maths akin to what Pure Science students currently study. According to Professor Appiah, the revamped curriculum eliminates the need for Science students to take Integrated Science in SHS, as the junior high school curriculum now adequately prepares them for advanced studies without repetition.
