ECG Managing Director Warns Against Purchasing Meters from Unauthorized Sources

The Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Samuel Dubik Mahama, has issued a caution to customers regarding the purchase of prepaid or post-meters from unauthorized individuals, including ECG staff.

During an interview on Peace FM's morning show "Kokrokoo," Mr. Dubik Mahama addressed a listener's complaint about an ECG staff member charging GHC 7,000 to install a meter.

Mr. Dubik Mahama emphasized that ECG does not sell meters, as they are part of the service connection provided by the company. The cost of the meter is recovered over time and is not meant for immediate sale. He reiterated that meters are marked with "property of the Electricity Company of Ghana" to emphasize their ownership by the company.

Furthermore, the ECG MD warned electricity users against falling prey to fraudsters, advising them not to make any payments to individuals claiming to sell meters or requesting money through phone messages. He urged customers to be cautious and report any suspicious activities related to meter sales to the appropriate authorities.
