Bawumia Will Unveil His Running Mate in Two Months – Nana Akomea


The campaign team for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has disclosed that the quest for a suitable running mate to accompany Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming elections is still ongoing, emphasizing that no final decision has been made yet. 

Despite purported indications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) retaining Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang as John Mahama's partner, the NPP remains steadfast in their independent selection process.

Nana Akomeah, the Communications Director for the NPP Campaign Team, clarified the deliberative nature of choosing a running mate, highlighting factors like gender, background, personality, and more that influence the decision-making process. Dr. Bawumia is anticipated to unveil his choice within the next two months, allowing ample time for thorough consideration and assessment of potential candidates before presenting the selection to the party.


Former Attorney-General Ayikoi Otoo outlined the procedural aspect of choosing a running mate, emphasizing the role of the National Executive Council (NEC) in the decision-making process. While Dr. Bawumia can suggest a nominee, the final endorsement lies with the NEC, illustrating a collective approach to key appointments within the NPP.

In a bid to maintain unity and respect the leadership hierarchy, Majority Leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu urged party supporters to refrain from exerting undue pressure on Dr. Bawumia regarding the selection of his running mate. Expressing confidence in the Vice President's acumen, Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu highlighted the significance of granting Dr. Bawumia autonomy in his decision-making, a move anticipated to enhance party cohesion and success.
