Bawumia is Tired, He Has Run Out of Ideas - Alan Kyerematen
Former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen has continued to express disapproval of Ghana's economic situation, in contradiction to the government's claim of a significant recovery. His recent remarks were made late last week at a National Economic Summit.
They included a criticism of Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta for supposedly unfairly taking credit for small economic gains.
Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who oversees the government's Economic Management Team (EMT), is the target of Kyerematen's most recent criticism.
Alan sat on this committee for six years in a row. According to reports, Kyerematen claimed in an upcoming appearance on TV3 in Accra, "Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is fatigued. "He can't do anything new, and that's a fact," the speaker said, alluding to apparent constraints in the existing financial supervision.
Undeterred in his criticisms, Alan Kyerematen's remarks reflect a consistent challenge to government narratives regarding the economic situation in Ghana. The ongoing economic crisis, prompting the government's recourse to seek a $3 billion bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), with only $1.2 million disbursed as of January 2024, underpins the backdrop of his discontent.

Alan Kyerematen emphasized at the National Economic Summit that Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta should refrain from laying sole claim to the nuanced improvements observed in the economy.
Questioning Ofori-Atta's attribution of successes, Alan highlighted divergent views within the government regarding Ghana's engagement with the IMF, showcasing a stance aligned with the necessity of such intervention for economic stability.
