Bawumia Didn't Dodge His Responsibility, He Was Tasked to Lead Digitalization - Campaign Team Clarifies

Spokesperson for the Vice President's campaign team Dennis Miracles Aboagye revealed that President Mahamudu Bawumia was given the task of leading the government's digitization program to promote socio-economic advancement.

Aboagye emphasized that Dr. Bawumia was given exclusive authority to perform this particular task, and he did so with effectiveness.

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP's presidential contender for 2024, has been under fire recently for making a "driver's mate comment" in Accra. However, he has been accused of dodging responsibility.

However, in an interview with Asaase Radio in Accra on February 12, Aboagye clarified that Dr. Bawumia did not seek to distance himself from his duties with the comment.

However, it should be noted that the Economic Management Team (EMT) is merely a body of advisors to the cabinet; as such, cabinet makes all of the final decisions about the economy, not the EMT.

"Then, he went on to say that, as a vice-president, his job is to support the president’s vision and the president’s execution of that vision, and that the president assigned him a specific responsibility."

“Which is to re-engineer the digital space, to make it the mainstay of the economy going into the future, and that is what he did, so his office was mandated specifically to focus on an aspect of the economy, which was to reengineer the digital space and ensures that it drives economic growth going into the future,” Miracles Aboagye stated.
