You Don't Have to Attack AG and Akufo-Addo Over ACP Agodzo's Trial - Deputy AG To Martin Kpebu

The acquittal of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Agordzo in an alleged coup plot case has triggered contrasting reactions, with Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah criticizing the statements made by Martin Kpebu, the lawyer representing Agordzo.

Following the conviction of six individuals for conspiracy to commit high treason and committing high treason, ACP Agordzo, Colonel Gameli, and Corporal Seidu Abubakar were acquitted. Martin Kpebu, in response to the development, accused the state of subjecting ACP Agordzo to what he described as a "frivolous case," alleging that the Attorney General had orchestrated the trial to stifle free speech among public officers.

In response to Kpebu's comments, Deputy AG Alfred Tuah-Yeboah expressed his discontent, stating that such reactions were unwarranted following a discharge and acquittal of a client. He reminded Kpebu of the recourse available within the legal system, asserting that if the defense believes that the prosecution of their client was malicious, they have the right to seek legal redress.

Tuah-Yeboah emphasized the gravity of treason charges, highlighting that the prosecution process demands thoroughness and diligence. He noted, "In prosecution, you go with the evidence, the court is expected to sieve the evidence, weigh it and then come to the conclusion on the matter." He stressed the importance of respecting the court's decision, as it represents the essence of the rule of law.

Expressing surprise at Kpebu's approach, Tuah-Yeboah remarked, “He handled this case as a lawyer, he should respond to issues as a lawyer. He should not seek to denigrate the integrity of the Attorney General. I don’t think his client will be interested in attacking the prosecutors.”
