NDC's Deputy Secretary Jabs Akufo-Addo For His Statement on Neglecting Ekumfi Development
The President Akufo-Addo recently made a statement in which he acknowledged that he had purposefully ignored development in the Ekumfi constituency. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has vehemently condemned this admission. The President's remarks were labeled as "unpresidential" and "vindictive" by the opposing party.
The NDC's deputy secretary, Mustapha Gbande, stressed the inappropriateness of President Akufo-Addo's strategy in an interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, January 17. This was especially true when speaking to the family of a deceased former president.
"It seems like it would have been okay if the president was speaking to someone like me, but as the president of the Republic of Ghana, the president was speaking to the family, to the close relatives of a deceased former president [John Evans Atta Mills]." said Gbande. Therefore, we believe that making such remarks was unpresidential."
"It just reflects the nature of the president we have," he continued, "who is so vindictive and thinks he puts politics above development." His country is crumbling because of this."
The President publicly stated that his administration disregarded Ekumfi's progress since the locals had removed Francis Ato Cudjoe from the legislature in the 2020 elections.
During an interaction with traditional leaders from the constituency at the Jubilee House, President Akufo-Addo expressed dissatisfaction with the voting pattern in Ekumfi.

"Ato Cudjoe was your MP and I made him a Deputy Minister and you voted him out in the last elections and because of that, I did not pay attention to development in your area, I have to be honest with you but since you have brought it up I will pay attention to it," the President stated.
The NDC has taken a strong stance against these remarks, criticizing them as unacceptable and unbecoming of a sitting president.
