US District Judge Lewis Kaplan revealed on Monday that one of the nine jurors reported feeling unwell and was subsequently sent home after experiencing symptoms of nausea and heat. Trump’s attorney, Alina Habba, also revealed that she had exhibited symptoms of a fever in the last two days, after having dinner with her parents, one of whom tested positive for COVID-19. Both Habba and her co-counsel, Michael Madaio, tested negative for COVID-19 on Monday.

Following the announcement of the trial's postponement, Habba urged the judge to delay Trump’s testimony until Wednesday, citing the New Hampshire Republican primary scheduled for Tuesday. However, Judge Kaplan did not immediately provide a decision on the timing of Trump's testimony.

In the preceding week, Trump sat at the defense table while E Jean Carroll testified, alleging that he had defamed her subsequent to her accusation of rape in the 1990s. The jury is tasked with determining the monetary damages Trump should pay Carroll after his defamation of her in June 2019, when he denied allegations of sexual assault.

Amidst these proceedings, Trump has consistently denied the allegations and expressed discontent with the trial process, labeling it a "witch hunt" and a "con job." While Carroll's lawyers have pressed for Trump to affirm his understanding and acceptance of the court’s restrictions prior to providing testimony, emphasizing potential motivations for Trump to sensationalize the trial.
