AFCON 2023: CAF Announces Increased Prize Money for Winner

A significant 40% increase in prize money has been announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The winning team of the 2023 edition of this continental tournament, to be held in Ivory Coast, will take home a remarkable grand prize of $7 million. Alongside this rewarding sum, the runner-up is set to receive $4 million, with the four semifinalists each securing $2.5 million and the four quarterfinalists obtaining $1.3 million each.

Dr. Patrice Motsepe, President of CAF, emphasized the organization's commitment to enhancing the rewards for AFCON and other major competitions. 

He stated, "CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions." Dr. Motsepe emphasized the advantages of the increased prize money, stressing that it can help member associations with their administrative work and foster football development as well as assist football stakeholders.

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament is scheduled to kick off on January 13 and culminate with the grand final on February 11, 2024.
