Mahama Petitions CID To Fish Out NPP Zealots Faking His Letterheads

Former President John Mahama has formally submitted a petition to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, seeking an investigation into the unauthorized use of his official letterhead and credentials by certain members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). The petition, dated October 4 and filed by his legal representatives, Praetorium Solicitors, calls for a comprehensive inquiry and possible prosecution of those party members involved in the act.

The submitted petition points to an incident on October 2, where copies of a document bearing the former president's seal and style surfaced on various social media platforms, purportedly authored by Joyce Bawah Mogtari. The document, titled "Memo: Support for the Occupy the BoG Demonstration," was falsely attributed to Mahama's office, a disavowal emphasized in the petition.

In response to the incident, Joyce Bawah Mogtari, a special aide to Mahama, condemned the unauthorized use of the letterhead, stressing its adverse impact on Ghana's democratic process. She highlighted the dangers of disinformation and expressed confidence in the legal system's capacity to protect the country and its democratic ideals. Additionally, she underscored that formal complaints had been launched earlier to address the dissemination of false information and the misuse of the former president's official credentials.
