British Airways' Chief Officer of Planning and Strategy, Neil Alan Chernoff, highlighted the effect of high operating costs at Kotoka International Airport and linked significant cost increases to ticket prices. He emphasized that these high expenses present difficulties for airlines, and that if these issues are not resolved, attempts to attain competitive ticket pricing or lower fares may encounter obstacles.

Mees Van Ojik, the Country Manager of Air France-KLM, echoed similar sentiments, highlighting the detrimental effects of inflated operating expenses at a time when Ghana is experiencing a remarkable surge in passenger arrivals, surpassing pre-pandemic levels.

This sharp rise in passenger arrivals, exceeding 1.5 million, as confirmed by Deputy Minister of Transport, Alhassan Tampuli, has significantly impacted the airline industry in Ghana. Mr. Chernoff noted the substantial surge in demand, specifically for air travel to and from Ghana, surpassing pre-pandemic levels, which has in turn prompted British Airways to reevaluate its operational strategies, culminating in the introduction of their largest aircraft on the London-Accra route since 2022.
