In a recent development, the Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Constituency, Honorable Alfred Obeng-Boateng, has made a notable declaration concerning his bid for the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) parliamentary ticket in the upcoming 2024 general election. His statement was made public through a widely circulated audio clip shared by Sompa FM.

During his address, Obeng-Boateng revealed that in the previous primaries, he went to great lengths to win over delegates, offering financial incentives of up to GHC3,000 per person. With his current position as the Vice Chairperson of the Government Assurance Committee in Parliament, he emphasized his willingness to surpass any financial competition posed by his opponents when it comes to delegate payments. It is clear that he understands the challenges he may face during the primaries and is prepared to overcome them by utilizing his financial resources.

In the audio clip, he candidly expressed, "I knew from day one that upon all the resistance I faced during my coming (into office), this time people will regroup more forces, pull their resources together and fight one person. So knowing all this, I know everyone’s financial strength; I know everyone’s financial limit here."

Obeng-Boateng underscored his prudence in preparing for the primaries by specifically saving money in dollars to protect against the impact of inflation and to maintain the value of the funds. He plans to allocate as much as GHC20,000 to each of the 2,200 delegates in the constituency to secure the NPP's parliamentary ticket for the 2024 general elections.

Confident in his approach, he emphatically declared, "I am telling you that the money I will use for the primaries is in dollars and that money has been secured long ago, I must be frank with you. That is money I am not touching under any circumstance."

Obeng-Boateng's unwavering commitment to financially supporting delegates is evident as he expressed his determination to offer more than double the amount proposed by his competitors. His aim is to ensure that the delegates are motivated to support his candidacy for the party's parliamentary ticket.

It is intriguing to witness the strategies employed by candidates vying for positions within the NPP as they navigate the upcoming internal party elections, which include the selection of a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates for the 2024 general elections.
