IES and COPEC Call for Transparency on Sanctions Against Sentuo Oil Refinery
The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has been urged to reveal the entire scope of sanctions imposed on Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited for the distribution of substandard products in the Ghanaian market by the Institute for Energy Security (IES) and the Chamber for Petroleum Consumers (COPEC).

The demand for transparency from IES and COPEC is a result of the NPA rejecting their allegations about how the two organizations handled Sentuo Oil Refinery Limited (SORL). They are also requesting the release of the Quality Assurance Certificate and Commercial Licenses pertaining to the controversial petroleum consignment in a concerted effort.
The purpose of this action is to promote transparency, eliminate consumer and business uncertainty, and guarantee that all legal requirements are met without exception.
The IES and COPEC persist in their stance and insist that the NPA upholds industry rules uniformly across all Ghanaian petroleum service providers (PSPs) to establish public confidence and preserve the downstream petroleum sector's integrity. They highlight the alleged damages caused by Sentuo's products to vehicles and subsequent consumer complaints as a significant concern.
Citing the recent statement from the Association of Oil Marketing Companies (AOMCs), which highlighted operational challenges faced by some petroleum service stations dispensing Sentuo products resulting in numerous customer grievances, the IES and COPEC question the NPA's shifting position, from denying any wrongdoing to imposing additional sanctions on SORL for product discrepancies.
The discrepancy between the NPA's actions and statements raises questions about the necessity of these sanctions if the Sentuo refinery products are truly not problematic. The IES and COPEC emphasize the importance of compensating AOMCs and their affected members for the repercussions of the subpar fuel, warning of potential legal repercussions if compensations are not promptly addressed.
