Ghana's Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to exert pressure on the Ghana Police Service and the Judiciary to effectively address cases of attacks on journalists within the country.

The call for action follows recent assaults on two journalists, prompting the GJA to impose a media blackout on two politicians suspected of involvement in the attacks. Recognizing the limitations of the National Media Commission (NMC) in independently resolving such matters, the Information Minister stressed the key responsibility that lies with the Ghana Police Service and the Judiciary in addressing cases of violence against journalists.

Mr. Nkrumah implored the GJA to maintain consistent pressure on these institutions to uphold accountability and guarantee that reported incidents are meticulously investigated and pursued through legal channels.

Insisting on the necessity of holding authorities accountable, the Minister emphasized the significance of ensuring that reported cases are thoroughly followed up to prevent any instances of neglect or dismissal.
