Bawumia Launches 'Tap and Go' Digital Initiative for Transport Sector

In an effort to completely transform Ghana's transportation industry, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has unveiled a ground-breaking digital system called Tap and Go. With the help of this creative project, travelers can easily plan their trips and buy bus tickets from the comfort of their homes.

Dr. Bawumia stressed the significance of bringing all economic sectors into the digital era at the inauguration event on February 19 in order to advance efficiency and transparency in transportation services. To ensure that the system can identify every person boarding the bus, passengers using the Tap and Go system will need to register with their Ghana Card in order to access the digital card.

Dr. Bawumia highlighted the seamless experience that Tap and Go offers, where passengers can book their tickets online and board buses without the hassle of cash transactions or queues.

Named after its simple tap-to-pay feature, Tap and Go will be available in both physical and virtual versions, providing users with flexibility in payment options. The virtual card can be accessed through a mobile app, enabling travelers to make payments directly from their phones if they prefer not to use the physical card. This digital advancement mirrors systems like the Oyster Card in the United Kingdom, aiming to enhance convenience and efficiency in Ghana's public transport system.
