WHO Records Cholera Outbreak In Zambia, Donates One Million Vaccine Doses

Amid an outbreak that has claimed 249 lives since last October, Zambia is set to receive one million cholera vaccine doses from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Roma Chilengi, the health adviser to President Hakainde Hichilema, confirmed that the doses will be distributed to the most vulnerable areas and are scheduled to arrive by Saturday. "But we will try and prioritize places where the [cholera] problem is highest," Mr. Chilengi stated in an interview with the state-run Daily Mail newspaper.

President Hichilema is expected to visit the main treatment center at National Heroes Stadium on Wednesday to assess response measures. The government has also postponed the reopening of schools and implemented additional preventive measures in an effort to contain the outbreak.
