Yaw Osuwu, the chief executive officer of the Railway Development Authority, clarified the situation in response to media reports that suggested the government was planning to buy 12 trains from Europe to run long- and short-distance routes in Ghana.
The two trains, which are also passenger coaches, would be tested on the Tema-Mpakadan Railway line when they arrive, according to Osuwu. "Right now, we're attempting to test a commission at the Tema-Mpakadan line," he said. It’s about 98 percent, Tema port all the way to Mpakadan. To be able to commission and test the line, we have ordered two trains from Poland and not 12 trains."

Additionally, Osuwu mentioned that the Tema-Mpakadan Railway is nearly 98% complete, and commissioning is slated for May 2024, underscoring the significant progress and anticipated advancements in Ghana's railway infrastructure.
