January 8 Declared Holiday In Honor of Constitution Day

The government has declared that Monday, January 8, 2024, will be a public holiday to commemorate Constitutional Day. 

The Ministry of the Interior stated that the holiday was rescheduled to a weekday because the original date, January 7, falls on a Sunday. The announcement was made in a press release dated January 2, 2024, and signed by the Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery.

ECG to Disconnect Power to 91 Hospitals Over Outstanding Debts

The National Taskforce of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is gearing up to disconnect electricity supply to 91 hospitals across the country because of overdue payments. These health facilities together owe a considerable sum of GH₵261 million to the power distributor. Sources within ECG have revealed that these hospitals will be cut off from electricity within 48 hours of receiving a "demand notice." Akufo-Addo Disapproves GRA's Request for SML System Operation Amid Probe

President Nana Akufo-Addo has turned down the Ghana Revenue Authority's proposal to keep the Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML) system operational.  Up until further orders were given after the investigation was over, the GRA had maintained that the technology was necessary for real-time data recording. The request was sent in a letter dated January 16, 2024, which was signed by Rev. Dr. Amishaddai Owusu-Amoah, the GRA Commissioner General.
