Witnesses reported that the detonation of explosives at a private residence in the Bodija area of Ibadan led to the collapse of several houses, causing panic among residents and impacting various parts of the city. Governor Seyi Makinde stated that 77 individuals were treated for injuries, with most being discharged, while two fatalities were confirmed.

Makinde attributed the blast to illegal miners who had stored explosive devices in one of the houses in Bodija. Ibadan, Nigeria's third most populous city with a population of four million, experienced the impact of the explosion, despite being located 130km (80 miles) from Lagos, the country's commercial capital.
