DVLA Weija Office Records Progress in Biometric Vehicle Registration

With 24 cars registered on the day of the inauguration, January 2, the Weija Office of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has reported notable progress in the biometric registration of vehicles. On January 3, there were about 50 more car registrations, bringing the total to 74, continuing the upward trend. Ten of these were commercial cars, fifty-four were private, and ten were motorcycles, as stated in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) by Ms. Roselyn Ahensah, Manager of the Weija DVLA Office.

The primary source of the problems at first was importer verification; some purchasers had trouble finding their importers to complete the necessary verification. Ms. Ahensah underlined that the importer must physically be present for verification in order for registration to proceed under the new biometric system. She stated that several purchasers arrived without their importers at first, which caused a slight delay. However, things got better when purchasers found their importers and brought them in for confirmation, which sped up the registration procedure.

The Office hired more officers to examine cars and handle invoicing in order to alleviate these issues, while National Service Personnel helped to further expedite the procedure. Ms. Ahensah outlined the advantages of the new system, stressing its ability to stop impersonation, stop stolen cars, and lower instances of registration fraud. Crucially, she urged purchasers to get to know importers and verify the legitimacy of importer paperwork, emphasizing the value of dealing directly with DVLA agents as opposed to middlemen referred to as "goro guys."

Moreover, the Authority offers an online registration system with facial verification capabilities to assist cases where importers are unable to be physically present at the DVLA office. As per the new system, the increased level of verification provides peace of mind for both customers and officials, promoting greater confidence in the registration process.

Customers shared their experiences with the improved registration process, with Nana Akosua Nyame underscoring the importance of importers being present for smooth and successful completion of the registration process.
