Commercial Transport Operators Announce 30% Fare Increase
Ghana's commercial transportation operators have announced a 30% nationwide increase in transportation costs, which will take effect on Monday, January 22. The move was prompted by significant price hikes for lubricants, spare parts, and DVLA servicing fees.

In a formal statement, the operators emphasized the challenges they have had in maintaining their business operations in light of the escalating expenses for public transportation. "The continuous surge in lubricant prices, driven by fluctuations in global oil markets, has resulted in a considerable burden on drivers who rely heavily on oil to keep our vehicles running efficiently," the drivers stated in a news release.
They also emphasized how their ability to keep their cars in excellent condition has been severely hampered by the rising costs of spare components, especially for maintenance and repairs. The current scenario has resulted in reduced operating effectiveness and longer durations of vehicle unavailability, which has an adverse impact on drivers and the wider population that commutes.

They stated that the objective behind proposing a fare increase is to alleviate the financial difficulties faced by drivers and secure the sustainability of Ghana's public transportation industry.
