Due to alleged disparaging remarks made about the Asantehene, the Kumasi Traditional Council had ordered the NPP, under the direction of General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua, to bring Chairman Wontumi before them. This instruction came after a fight broke out during the recent screening of parliamentary candidates in the Ashanti area between Mr. Antwi Boasiako and the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua.

The Traditional Council invited Chairman Wontumi to a hearing, but he declined due to health concerns. The NPP national leadership then went before the Council to request an extension, and they were told to make sure Chairman Wontumi showed up within a week.

Sources at the Manhyia Palace have refuted allegations from several news portals claiming the Asantehene has ordered the Kumasi Traditional Council to stop considering Chairman Wontumi's case. They claim that the Asantehene has not made any such direction.
