Mahama To Select Running Mate For 2024 Election

Former President John Dramani Mahama, in response to calls from certain traditional authorities in Asunafo South for the NDC flagbearer to consider their MP, Eric Opoku, as a potential running mate, has made it clear that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will undertake the selection process for his running mate in the upcoming 2024 election. This response comes on the heels of similar appeals from the queen mother of the Bono Traditional Council, advocating for a Bono native to be chosen for the position.

Mr. Mahama emphasized that while the role of the running mate is crucial, it is essential to follow established procedures when selecting the right individual for the job. Speaking at a public engagement in the Ahafo Region, he urged for calm, reassuring the party and the public that the decision-making process would be conducted in accordance with the party's internal regulations.

Addressing the audience, Mr. Mahama underscored, "What I will say is that, just like custom has it, our party also has processes to select candidates for various roles." He further clarified, "It is the Presidential candidate, National executives, and Council of Elders who come together to select a running mate. But that process will start next year. So keep praying for such a time."
