NCCE wants police to punish invaders of UTV studios to deter others

The National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has expressed its appreciation to the Ghana Police Service for taking swift action in apprehending the individuals responsible for the disturbance at the studios of UTV. The NCCE has also called upon the police to ensure that the culprits face appropriate punishment.

In a statement released on Monday, October 9, 2023, the NCCE highlighted the significance of holding the perpetrators accountable to deter future occurrences. The commission commended the police for the promptness with which they made the arrests and urged them to carry out a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are punished accordingly.

Furthermore, the NCCE advised the public, particularly political communicators, to exercise moderation in their political discussions. The commission also emphasized the importance of promoting political tolerance among individuals to uphold the integrity of Ghana's democracy.

The NCCE stressed the need for political parties to engage in respectful and decent politics that align with democratic principles. According to the commission, this approach will contribute to strengthening and safeguarding the nation's peace and unity.

The statement from the NCCE follows an incident in which supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the studios of UTV, disrupting a live program and intimidating the guests. Reports indicate that the group, allegedly led by the Klottey Korle Youth Organiser of the NPP, took such action based on their perception that the issues discussed and the behavior of certain guests were portraying the NPP in a negative light.
