GMB2023: Volta Region Takes The Crown

In a thrilling grand finale at the National Theatre, Selorm Magdalene Gafah, the representative from the Volta Region, was crowned the winner of this year's Ghana's Most Beautiful pageant. The 13-week reality show concluded on Sunday, October 8, with Selorm triumphing over Naa Ayeley from the Greater Accra Region to claim the coveted crown.

The competition was fierce, with Kwartemaa from the Bono Region securing third place, followed by Nurah from the Northern Region in fourth place, and Aduanige from the Upper East Region coming in fifth.

Selorm, the eventual winner, took to the stage as the third contestant following Nurah. She showcased the rich cultural and traditional heritage of the Volta Region, highlighting the notable personalities that the region has gifted to the country, including the late former President Jerry John Rawlings, playwright Efo Kodjo Mawugbe, and singer Ephraim Amu. Her presentation concluded with the energetic Agbadza dance, symbolizing the unity and strength of the Volta Region.

Judge Dzigbordi Dosoo couldn't contain her admiration and noted, "Throughout the competition, you came gracefully, today you came powerfully." Selorm's performance resonated with the audience and judges alike.

During the Q&A session, Selorm was asked about her views on the government's Free SHS Policy. She expressed her support for the policy, acknowledging its positive impact in alleviating the financial burden on parents and providing equal access to secondary education for all Ghanaians. She shared a personal story of a cousin who benefited from the policy. However, she also highlighted the need for additional infrastructure and funding to enhance the program.

In the final decision-making process, the judges' votes accounted for 60 percent, while the audience and viewers held 40 percent of the power to determine the winner. Ultimately, Selorm Magdalene Gafah was announced as the queen of Ghana's Most Beautiful 2023.
