Guinea's transitional president, Mamady Doumbouya, announced the dissolution of the government led by Dr. Bernard Goumou, effective February 19, 2024. The official decree, conveyed through state TV and shared on presidential social media channels, included critical directives aimed at restructuring governance in the country.

Decree and Reform Measures

The decree, read by the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Republic, outlined significant actions, including the freezing of accounts belonging to outgoing government members and the mandatory surrender of travel documents. In a notable shift, technocrats from various ministries and directors have been tasked with interim administrative responsibilities to ensure ongoing governance stability.

Mamady Doumbouya assumed the role of transitional president following the ousting of former president Alpha Conde in 2021. Conde's extended rule beyond his constitutional term limits, facilitated by amending the Constitution, culminated in his removal from power after disputed elections and subsequent inauguration.

Political Evolution and Governance Reforms

The dissolution of the existing government underlines Doumbouya's commitment to instituting reforms and reshaping Guinea's political landscape in the post-Conde era. By entrusting technocrats with interim governance duties, the transitional administration seeks to navigate the country through a critical phase of transition, ensuring administrative continuity while laying the groundwork for future governance structures.
